I am a novice at 320i ownership. Just bought an 82' last Nov. as a second car. All I can say is "What fun!". It may be a bit anemic compared to other BMW's but handles so nicely. As an old wrench, but new to BMW's, my biggest praise for the 320i is the simplicity. Compared to modern-day cars of equal handling, it is a very simple car. And most parts are very affordable, with the exception of odd-ball parts.

As far as the 320iS, I've basically turned mine into an S for $500 extra. I got an LSD, a rear anti-sway, and a pair of recarro's from www.bmwusedparts.com. Jim (the guy who runs the service) is very knowledgable and helpfull. The LSD and rear anti-sway makes a HUGE difference in turns, but only use them as a pair. One without the other results in either wheel lift or little benefit. The car handles great, is reliable, and is totally stock (so far).

The car passed the new NY city inspection with flying colors, including emissions, with 122k and no special work. Just make sure the fuel injection system is in good shape. My biggest hurdle with the car is spending too much time with it, and taking heat from my wife as a result. Good luck. Fun car for the money.

: I may very soon be in the market for a BMW 320i or 320is. All of you who own one or the other if you could share your experiences and insights on these cars I'd very much appreciate it. Please respond directly to:
