I drove an '80 320i from 1980 until around 1986.

It was a fun car. Underpowered (101hp), but with a great feel, nice handling, and a "personality" that most cars don't have.

When the 6's hit the US market, though, it was never quite the same. The E30 6 cyl cars, esp. the i's but even the e's, are really a lot more advanced, with modern injection, a lot more torque/power, faster, quieter, more solid, etc. And, there are a lot of them out there, for not a lot of $$$. As a "real world" car (i.e. a daily driver type), I think you'll find them to be a better choice, if you can swing the extra $$.

That being said, I like the 320 a lot, and can see myself buying a nice 80-83 320is in the future, not as a daily driver, but as something to tinker around with. I have a lot of great memories of the car!

: I may very soon be in the market for a BMW 320i or 320is. All of you who own one or the other if you could share your experiences and insights on these cars I'd very much appreciate it. Please respond directly to:
