Might look at the intake hood because the severe backfire could have blown it loose.

: Got a 1980 320i. Lately on occasion at cold start-up, engine has backfired. Now on most recent cold start-up, engine backfired, barely got engine restarted, and won't idle unless I keep it over 1500 RPMs.

: Any comments would be very much appreciated.
