I have a '79 320i with the '77 vented discs (only needed on the track where brake fade is an issue) and I find the Metal Master pads are plenty good and only a few dollars more than stock. $27.95 through Bimmer Parts Co. Are you still selling the car? Sorry to see you so unsatisfied lately.
