Where were these hoses you just described? I still occasionally have the surging idle problem on my 1981 320i, even though, within the last year, I've replaced with new parts:
1. all my vacuum hoses
2. injector bushings
3. the two big rubber boots on the air intake side
4. the dipstick
5. charcoal canister
6. O2 sensor
I keep thinking that there must still be a subtle vacuum leak somewhere that I have not yet isolated. It's maddening.
