I don't consider Fram to make the greatest filters in the world, but I've seen the links to this study posted on saabnet.com, brickboard.com, and several other places, and I must protest that what matters for an oil filter is how much oil can pass through it without tripping the pressure relief bypass and how small a particle of solid matter it can be counted on to remove. After that come considerations of the quality of the anti-drainback (which doesn't matter for filters mounted vertically with the gasket, etc., on top) and so forth.

This study by measuring how long the filtering element stretches when enrolled and similar stuff is looking at things with serious naivete about real-world engineering. When my older son won his 4th grade science fair with a study of the aerodynamic factors in "Pine Wood Derby" cars, it had a lot more scientific validity than this.
