Oil light issues (archive)

Allright, heres one for all you out there.

On initial (cold) startup, or when car has sat for more than about a half hour, the oil light in my 82 takes about 30 seconds to go off.

It always goes off at exactly the same time as the Ox. sens. light. (even when it is warm)

ENgine does not rap when light is on, and seems very strong otherwise.

Light never flickers at idle (even a very low idle)

I have not checked the actual system pressure, so I dont know what it runs at, and I do know that "idiot" lights are set way too low...

Is the oil system or pump supposed to maintain some residual pressure via a check valve, etc? and could this be faulty?

Any thoughts?
