My 79 320i has been down for months now, and after having it checked out by a mechanic, he said that the fuel pump was no good and that the baffle plate had been damaged. I went out to the pickerpull for their half off sale, and in the rain, got my fuel pump and mixture regulator. (pick and pulls are fun - I also got a fuel distributor for free, apparently they didn't know it was a seperate part) So over the course of this week I've attempted to put everything back, and the fuel pump seems to be giving much more pressure than the old one, and the baffle plate is nicely aligned, and the car won't start still. There are a couple of glaring issues I know I have to adress, though.
-1 I'm missing a seal where a line goes into the fuel distributor, and gas is shooting out of there. Could this cause a pressure drop, not allowing my injectors to fire? It seems to be the return line. Are these seals still available? -2 My cold start jet doesn't fire. It always used to, in fact, that used to be all that fired. Could the car fire over without it, or does it need to give it the first kick to lift the baffle plate?
After I fix these things, are there any other components I should test or look at? Or should my car be back on the road? It died mysteriously one day, and the thought of a broken fuel distributor as loomed over my head ever since. I don't have 800 bucks to put into a 600 dollar car. TIA everyone!
