I think I know what's your problem, but before I get to it do the following. Pull your fuel pump relay and clean the tabs and bend them slightly for good contact then see how that works first. Next is what I think is your problem. I think your ignition distributor is going bad. Well, if the car starts ok when it's cold then won't start after the engine is worm (you drove it for while) then I bet you it's your distributer. To verify what Iam thinking is your problem, get a vacuum gage and attack it to the intake manifold (there's a fitting in it at the bottom by the oil dipstick). start the car and let it idle for a while (get hot) and watch how the needle moves and what is the reading on it. It should be between 18-22 Lb/in^2 (this reading tells you how good your engine sucks air). If it's around 14-15 and fluctuates rapidly either of these numbersb (assuming you don't have any vacuum leaks period) then you have an ignition problem (weak spark)and that will effect your idle dramatically and you won't be able to adjust it right. try that and let me know. By the way, if you don't know how to check first for vacuum leaks, buy a carburator cleaner and spray it at each vacuum hose or fitting. If your idle changes at a certain spot then you have a leak in that area. do this before you use the vacuum gage and see if you can get a diagram for vacuum gage needle movement to better diagnose your problem (try a chilton manual from any public library) Good luck Mazen E-mail me if you need more help in any part of your car as Iam very well experienced with these cars. mazen@siu.edu 82 BMW 320is 82 BMW 320i 84 BMW 528e and a previous owner of 3 BMW 320i and 1 85 318i
