: Please elaborate on how to check #2. All my cars except the "new" one just given to me (and doen't run, fuel pump not running) have carbs...CFI is a new ball-game to me...
Auxiliary air valve is right on top of the intake manifold, actually between the manifold and cylinder head. It has an air hose connected to the top and bottom end, and an electrical connector on the top end. When the engine is cold, remove an air line and shine a light into the hole. you should be able to see a half-moon shaped opening (the other half is the valve disc). It may be easier to see if you take the valve all the way out and shine a light through it. When it heats up, due to engine heat or electrical heat, that valve disc drives over to close off the hole. So when the engine is cold, squeezing the air line will cause the engine to slow down, when it's warm, it will have no effect.
