: I have a 1981 320i with 83,000 miles. It is the cleanest one I've ever seen(except for restored ones). Should I give up my dream of making it fast or is it actually possible with this old 4 banger. I need suggestions. Turbo's? Headers? slip differential? you tell me....are they worth it or should I save my money. and NO, dont say buy a different car if you want to go fast I like this one!

The M10 BMW 4 cylinder is a wonderful, and very tunable motor. You could start with boltons like a header and exhaust(Ansa,Stahl,Supersprintetc.)K&N airfilter, upgradeed ignition(MSD 6al)or if you really want more power, the best thing to do is build your 1.8 into a 2.0L using crank and rods from 77-80 motor. Their is also many high compression pistons available, as well as cams, cylinder head porting etc. some people have turboed these cars with varying degrees of success. In short, the sky is the limit. Good luck, Al
