323i ebrake cable removal (archive)

How do the emergency brake cables on 82 323i, come out?
I've disconnected the cables at the emergency brake lever. The trailing arms are disconnected but I don't see how the cable is pulled, keeping them connected at the disc brake, so that the free end at the ebrake levers slides rearward and out the rear.

Any help is much appreciated.
