I have never actually tried to put 8" rims on a E21, but I think the you will require a fair sized spacer in the front. Other than that, it depends on how you feel about grinding your wheel arches! Is your car lowered? When I worked at Hot Water Performance, we put 18x8.5 wheels on a VW Golf with an 80mm lowered Jamex suspension!(alot of work, but anything is possible) Let us know if it works.
