Last month, I got my tires checked w/ the new Hunter (9700?) tire machine. THis machine has a measurement bar that rolls along the tangential circumference of the tire when the tire is made to spin, and provides very precise feedback to the computer re: the roundness, wobble, etc... of the tire.
The diagnosis pinpointed two things gone wrong - namely all four tires (Yoko AVS Inter) separated, two wheels egg shaped. Visually, I could not tell a thing, and frustratingly, neither could the tire place that I went to - twice - to have the tires/wheels checked. But on the machine, the evidence was crystal clear. I saw the bar move up and down, and the wheels wobbled to & fro.
I need to get new wheels, but for now have placed the two slightly warped ones in the rears. I picked up a new set of tires, had the guys w/ the new hunter tire machine install and balance, and I no longer have the dreaded wheel shimmy.
I would forego the anti shimmy kit. YOu can always install it later, without having to remove anything, unless the big washer w/ the rubber ring needs replacing. It did absolutely nothing for me, except suck $20 out of my wallet.
: I've got an appointment made to have my new Bilstien Sport shocks and BavAuto Sport springs installed next week. I've also ordered a BavAuto Anti-shimmy kit to be installed. I don't have a "bad" shimmy, but the huge gaps between the sway bar and control arms seem so wrong. But I hear a lot of people on this list are negative towards these antishimmy kits. What should I do? I run stock 13" alloys.
: Second...I on my drive to work come to a stop at an intersection at the bottom of a fairy steep hill and sometimes, not all the time, my car just up and dies. I used to think had to do with the fuel level in my car...1/4 tank or lower and the pump just wasn't picking up anything...but it died today and I had half a tank. Any ideas?
: TIA
