Use this as a rough guidline. Some of the years maybe off +/- 1 year. Introduction years for new models in the US are generally 1 year after introduction in Europe.

All of these E numbers are for 3 series cars.

E21: produced from 1976( or 7)-1982 with the 320i available in the US. Others were available outside 315, 316, 320/6, 323i. You'll see some of these mentioned here.

E30: produced from 1983-1991 with the 318i(s) and the 325i(s) available in the US.

E36: produced from 1992-1999(?)with the 318i(s) and 318ti, the 325i(s), 328i(s) available in US.

E46: Starting in 2000(?) available as 323 and 328 vaiants with changes to the 330 and 325 expected next year.

M3 models were also avaiable.
E30 M3 1988-1991
E36 M3 1995-1999

: I have an 87 6 series I'm looking to trade or sell for a four door 3 or 5 series(kids). Can anyone tell me what the difference is between an E21, E30, E36 & E46?
