I assume your car is a 320i? In which case it does not have a carburettor....it is fuel injected. Make sure your mechanic knows how to adjust idle on the fuel injected system.

I would check your idle speed (look at tachometer) and note engine rpm with and without the AC turned on. If your idle speed is too low, it may need to be upped a bit to handle the additional load of the AC. I would set the idle a hair over 1000 rpm, with the engine fully heated up, without the AC on. At this speed, turning on the AC should cause a momentary dive in rpm, and then the engine should recover to about 900 rpm or so. Good luck.


Now that its summer I've been driving my '79 320 E21 automatic with the aircon on, but my car keeps stalling, especially when I am trying to drive off after stopping at the traffic lights. Any ideas what might be the problem? My mechanic though it was the carburettor, but after checking he said it was in good condition.
