Assuming that the instrument light panel switch isn't dimmed to a low setting, it's probably a blown bulb. You can tell by looking up at the top of the instrument panel with the lights on. There should be three lights on. If you have less than you have a blown bulb. Replace them all at the same time to save future time and effort.

It's not too bad replacing the lights, but you have to pull the steering wheel (big nut (21 mm-ish?) and long torque wrench) and remove the instrument panel (unscrew speedo cable near the firewall, unscrew the single knurled knob holding the instrument panel in, and unplug the wire harnesses on the back of the instrument panel) to get at the light bulbs that illuminate the instrument panel.

I've done it many a time and it only takes about 15-20 minutes to complete the whole process.
