I am wanting to convert the low beam headlamps in my 82 323I dual h/lamp system to hi/lo beams but all of the h4 units I have seen ( bosch,hella etc ) have the park lamp holder outside the main lamp and they will not fit into the existing metal buckets without extensive modifications. Has anyone come across a hi/lo with the park lamp inside the h/lamp ?? My 323 is australian spec which I belive is similar to euro but without a cat and RHD.

You might try the Bosch/Hella H4's and then use a city light conversion kit. It's basically a metal ring with a 5W bulb socket and a wiring connection that you put into the the back of an H4 light assembly before putting in the bulb. The glass part of the bulb slips though the ring and the ring gets sanwiched between the base of the bulb and the light assem. Most of the Japanese hot rod shops carry them for around $25.00 US.
