Noel,
I have a found a possible option. Check out http://www.racetep.com/bmwngin.html. Scroll down to where it says "320I 1800 150-160HP engine build up. 2100cc conversion for use with stock CIS or L-Jetronic F.I. system." You could build an engine like this yourself or have Top-End do it. It sounds like a great solution for you if the 4 cylinder class you want to be in will allow it.

I'm looking into modifying my 320i so it can give all these little Hondas a run for their money on weekend nights. The main thing is:

Should I look into modifying the existing engine (2.0L upgrades, etc), or should I seek to replace the entire engine with something like one from an M3?

This car won't be a daily driver but still needs to be somewhat inspection worthy and may eventually see some real track time.

Any opinions are appreciated.
