1981 320i - warm-up regulator (archive)

Anyone know the symptoms when the warm-up regulator starts to fail? When I start up in the morning, it seems to run rough...just had a full tune up done and the mechanic says the warmup reg. needs to be replaced...any thoughts would be appreciated...
