For your idle problem I would start by looking for a vacuum leak. Common leak points are: hoses that run under the intake manifold, gas cap, oil filler cap and dipstick. If you have a lot of miles and you haven't done it for a while, adjust your valves and while the cover is off re-torque your head.

Someone please help me!

1. I have an 81 320i which has this erratic idle at times..
Sometimes the idle is smooth and all other times, the idle is rough. Sometimes, it stalls on me when I stop at an intersection although it rarely happens when the engine is warm. I know very little about cars but I'll love to know what might be the problem b/4 I take it to a mechanic. (I'll like to fix it myself!)

2. I hear this light metal noise in the right side of the vecile when I drive. Sometimes it is there and other times it isn't. Does not happen when the catr is at a stop on when the clutch is engaged. The noise is not loud but very annoying. I do not know if anyone has had this problem before but I'll really appreciate anything that will help me diagnose this probs.
