Just added a 80 320i to the fold. It takes 20 seconds before the darn thing wants to start. It seems it takes that long to get any gas to turn over, but once its there, it seems to run fine. Can anyone tell me what I might look for that causes the hesitant start? I think that it is gas starved for 20 seconds befor gas gets the gas to the combustion chambers.
Thanks,
Craig
Hi-
I have had this problem in my 320i. There is a small, bolt-sized check valve at the out terminal of the main electric fuel pump. if that fails, the fuel which it supposed to stay at injection pressure when the car is left off leaks back into the tank, and you need 10-20 seconds of cranking before proper pressure is attained. Another thing that can cause this is the failure of the fuel pressure accumulator, which is next to the fuel pump.
