The heat shield should be bolted to the manifold with two small(10mm?) bolts. It is a piece of metal that wraps around the manifold. HTH, Al

When I got my 320, the AC clutch had failed so the previous owner simply disconnected the drive belt and idler pulley. The resulting "loose" AC compressor clutch rattled like a tin can. I originally thought the noise was the starter pinion gear hitting the flywheel (similar sound). Removing the bad clutch, until I could afford a replacement fixed the sound.

Could be heat shield on your exhaust manifold too. They tend to rust our near connection bolts.

Very annoying metallic noise..sounds like light metal scrapping along a rough surface. A friend mentioned the exhasut! Any suggestion?
