323i fuel pump 2 pieces? (archive)

Does the fuel pump on a 82 323i have two pieces. I was looking at mine and I saw two round cylinders. The fuel line goes from the tank to one of the fuel pump cylinders then to the fuel filter then to the second fuel pump cylinder. Does anyone know if one is a primer pump, or if the two cylinders are just the one primary pump. Thanks for any help.
