Hello:

I'm located in Ontario Canada, and have been a fan of this model since i was a kid (father owned one). now I'm in the market of buying and restoring one, and would like some advice. First and foremost i would like to know which model year proved to be the most reliable one, i understand that pre-1980 had the 2.0 liter engine in there and the 1980-83 had the 1.8 liter, are these engines identical, what are their differences, and which engine can be tuned for increased performance, suspension components, did they have all the same components or has any model year had an upgrade. Secondly, although these cars are 20 yrs in age, are there still aftermarket parts that i can get from dealers if i wanted to upgrade or change anything for this model. For curiousity reasons has anybody here every changed to a newer 4 cyl engine say from a z3 or a 6 cyl such as a 90's 2.5 or 2.8? what are the foreable problems benefits? thanks in advance
