car feels heavy, can power steering break? (archive)

I've got a 316 e21 auto, and its started to feel really heavy lately. I've checked the tires they are fine. Could the power steering be damaged? It clicks and it makes a squeekey sound when its a dry day. Or could the car feeling heavy be caused by something else?
