I've said this before when people ask about the price of these cars. They are DIRT cheap. That is the beauty of them. You get BMW quality, and performance, but at a bargain basement price. With 150000+ miles, and only in decent shape, with some rust, I wouldn't pay much more than $800-1000. The 80-83's are not my first choice, mainly because of the anemic 1.8L motor, and IMHO, the early chrome mirrors look much nicer. The plus side to the later cars is the 5 speed transmission. All years will hold upo great with some proper maintenance. As for parts availability, I couldn't tell you how it is where you live, but in Vancouver BC, I have no problems with parts. They are more $$$ than your average econobox however. You can also find many people on this forum selling used parts.

what do you think of a 1983 BMW 320i with 150,000+ plus miles? i'm a student looking for a car and have been offered one. what is the price range of these cars (pretty good condition, some rust)? how well do these BMWs hold up? how hard is it to find replacement parts for them? if you can't tell, i'm not much of a car person and would welcome any advice you may have. please email replies as well as post to board. thanks
