I saw this happen to one of the radios in the vans at my job. It was really odd, I couldn't pick up any FM at all, but AM came in just fine. Is there static with the FM, or is it completely silent? If there's still some background noise, I'd say the problem's in your antenna. AM and FM transmissions are quite diffrent (I have an old stereo in my apartment that has two seperate antennas for each. If it's completely dead, I'd say the radio is too. But again, I'm just babbiling, though I hope it points you in the right direction!
