Steering rack bushings & swaybar link bushing should fix the problem, may also be coming from the rear end. Solid rear subframe mounts and rear arm bushings. Get urethane bushing for better control of them shimmies.

I researched the Archives and the neat e21 Web Site recommended, and none of the postings were very hopeful. Seemed like most fixes are hit-and-miss or just plain luck.

1981 323i Federalized Euro (with ugly bumpers thanks to Uncle Sam), 69K original miles and shimmying at 40-50 mph.

Tried new tires, control arm bushings. Everything else is TIGHT, including factory hydrailic shimmy damper attached to the right side of the steering rack.

Anyone tried urethane rack/swaybar bushings? Do they work?

Bob
