I concur.
The manual calls for 91 octane.
Super usually has a detergent additive to keep valves clean too. I've always run 92 in all my cars, unless at the track, then it's Unocal 96.



A higher octane gas will have less of a tendency to pre-ignite which in turn causes valve pinging and engine knock. Some cars have preignition retarders in the engine (not so in an 81 BMW) The engine does run cleaner with a higher octane. So if you have valve ping or engine knock spend the extra money. I always feel better putting super unleaded in.
