How the heck do I get at the bulbs behind the heater controls? I know how to get at the ones for the instrument cluster, but I am baffled by this.

Different years have different details, but the principle is the same, and finding your way in is PITA, as you are already learning.

Anyway, search around the edge of the panel that holds the heater knobs for the screws thet hold it in--there are two or three hidden under the top edge, pull off the heater knobs and you'll find a couple more there--that's right, hidden behind the knobs. It's a real Easter Egg hunt.

Once you get the screws out ease the panel out with all the heater control cables attached. There's just enough slack to almost get your fingers into some sort of working position behind the panel.

As Gary pointed out there's only one light, and light pipes run all over from it. The way they run light out to the pointer in the knob is really sexy.

Give yourself a whole day for this adventure...
