yes it can, but you'll need to drop the exhaust and driveshaft.

yes, you can replace it without opening the tranny.

i haven't done it but i started too. the big obstacles are: there is a big nut holding the flange for the driveshaft which needs to be removed. it requires a 30mm thin walled deep well socket. 2nd there is a snap ring which must be replaced after its removed. and 3rd you will need a puller to get the flange off. in my opinion this is a job best left to the professionals, so if you're a pro go for it.

Does anyone know if:

1) The rear seal on the transmission can be replaced without pulling the trans out of the car?

2) Can it be replaced without going into the transmission itself?

3) If you've ever done the job, is it one you'd even think of trying again?
