Odometer problems are quite common on the 320i, especially if the speedo was manufactured by VDO (look at your tach - it will say either VDO or MotoMeter - that's who made the instrument cluster in your car). VDO's last about 100k miles, some MotoMeter's will go to 300k+! Either way, check out the services at Overseas Speedometer at www.speedometer.com. Nice web site, good servive, and they'll give you a quote via e-mail after you describe your problem. A similar repair of my odometer was around $80. They will check the speedo calibration when they repair. As for the optimistic speedo readings, if it is not the speedo's calibartion, then make sure the tires are of a stock size, or equivalent diameter (185/70-13, 195/60-14 or 205/50-15). If your tires are one of these, then it is possible the previous owner changed (lowered) the gear ratio in the rear end without changing the speedo drive ratio! Good luck!
