In Reply to: Better to start w/ Euro 323 or a US 320??? posted by Hows on October 20, 2000 at 00:53:42:

Also, I got mine through a tip on this board, on Ebay, won bid @ pennies under $5k, under 58k miles, Texas car, about as mint as can be for an 18 yr old car. W/ your timeline, it's good that you don't buy into the first thing you find and should keep looking and definitely keep watching on this board. As you may already know, there's also a pretty good selection of 323i on the Grey market E21 site. If you go down five or six posts below, under the fella named "ARNE", he tagged his site.

I could be wrong, but putting euro bumpers on US E21 may be problematic, especially in the rear. From what I remember, rear quarter panels of euro differs from US, w/ US requiring some modifications to pass bumper laws. Brackets hanging dual exhaust may not be available for US model, but then again, you may not want nor require dual exhausts.

I'm sure others have done this, so I expect to be corrected if any of this is wrong. Inform me please.

I've been into the 323i ownership for almost one year now and wouldn't trade a thing about it. Similarly to you, I came out of a(n) E28 535i. Great car, wished I didn't part w/ it @ 121k miles. From what I've read, this is just break in miles. IF you are out there who bought my former grey 535i in Austin for $4750.00 around April '98, I would like to hook up, see how it's holding up. heck, I will even consider buying it back. Because toting kids around town in an E21 is a real pain, with the seat thing, you know?

OT: If any of you are planning to attend the BMWCCA Best roads of Texas drive in Central Texas & Houston area, I'll be taking my 323i tomorrow. CHeck it out, I'll offer rides in it. I hope I don't need AC, as I just posted below that I think Freon is getting a wee bit low.
