I have been having a starting problem lately. When i turn the key the idle of my 83 320i will go to about 1500 but it just drops unless i give it a little gas to keep it there. but after i give it that little gas it stays at 1000. i have changed the aux air valve, warm up regulator, and also all of the vacuum hoses. does anyone have any clue what it could be??

Another possibility: make sure the electrical system is in good condition. Clean or, better yet, replace your battery cables, make sure the ground through the battery pan is good, clean all the fuses and the contacts. If you have a day without other domestic chores, try to clean every electrical connector you can find on the wiring harness. Use emery boards (for your fingernails). My 320i had similar problems to yours, and a rehabilitation of the electrical connectors helped a lot.
