I did this recently, removing all of the smog/egr/thermal reactor/de-acceleration stuff (don't know if I have all of my terms right).
I removed my manifold and broke off the four pipes that go up at a 90 degree agle from the body of the manifold.
Removed thermal reactor:
stand on the passenger side and look at the back side of the manifold. Loosen the big nut. I hade to remove my alternator to get the rest of it out.
As far as the vacuum lines go I removed them all one at a time, testing drivability after removing each one. The only vacuum line I have left is the one for the advance on the timing (one on the distributor).
I don't know all the names of all of the pieces that I removed, though I could show you if I was looking at your engine. Here is a pic if it helps at all. I will make more pictures if you want me to.

Would anyone direct me to archives or to any write ups on how to pull all the redundant unnecessary reactor and smog stuff off my brother in laws car. He has a 77 320i Automatic. He says he would like a little more performance and I thought this would help, especially switching to a Tii exhaust manifold.
Better yet, help me, if you know how or discuss the pros and cons.
Thanks,
Craig
