I don't have my Haynes manual handy, since my son who owns the E21 recently moved away to take his first real job, but the number you're quoting seems more like something for the wheel bearing on a front drive car, or the swing axle on an old VW. Are you sure you're not looking at the torque for the wheel nuts rather than the bearing nut, which should be a very tiny amount of preload only?
