Removal of backseat (archive)

I recently purchased a '78 320i. The trunk has since jammed and I can not get it opened. I need to take out the rear seat to get at the trunk lid from the inside but I am having difficulties getting the back rest off. I can not even find what is holding it on. I have taken off the seat part as well as the seat belts but still do not see how to get at the back of the seat. Any suggestions?

I believe that some of the wiring for the back end of the car is stuck in the locking mechanism as I have lost my side blinkers and my license plate lights. I am also unable to get my heater to come on. The fan blows but no heat. The previous owner said that his son broke the connector from the heater switch under the panel but that it would be extremely hard to get to. Can I repair this at home or do I need to take it to a repair shop?
