Sorry to burst the bubble guys, but the clock should be illuminate when you turn the key 1 click and should remain so thereafter. It should also dim about 50% when you turn on your headlights and be bright again when you turn the off. The button is indeed only for use when ignition is turned off. That's what my manual says and my 323i's do. Good Luck

Only US cars were badged 320i. (although an 80> 320i is really a 318i)

But, yes my 323i works like yours. I thought it was broken too and I don't read German, so my owners man is no help.

Maybe you are right... Mine is Euro, but I'm not sure if the ones I checked were Euro or US spec... but if I had to make a guess, it should be Euro. They were a 323i and a 316.Where there any US 323i??
So your cars do the same as mine.. .then it should be normal... I guess.
