When I fill the tank on my 1983 320i, I can smell gas for several days

I had the same problem. On the top of the gas tank is located under the seat of the passenger back seat. if you take the back seat out you will see a panel. unbold these. you will see the top of the gas tank. I know the rubber (there are many) plastic tubes. you can see where it is leaking. once you replace these. no more gas smell!!
