There are a lot of thigns that could cause this. One thing that none of the owrkshop manuals ever suggested is that the fuel pump check valve can fail. This is a little valve built into the hollow bolt that fastens into the end of the OUT side of the main fuel pump. If this goes bad, injection pressure fuel can leak back through the pump and into the tank. After your car has been sitting for a few hours after driving, or even overnight, carefully (put on goggles and have a rag to catch the fuel) undo the nut on the top of the cold start injector. IF fuel sprays out, then your fuel pump check valve is good. IF not, it may need to be replaced, which I have done but is a royal PITA. Let me know how ti works out.

i have a 1978 320i hard to start hot and cold i have change the cold start valve but no help.
