Coolant Leak! (archive)

Help!

My 320i started leaking coolant (in a rather major way) today and I can't figure out what's leaking. It's leaking somewhere near the back of the engine (towards the windsheild) on the driver's (left) side.

It doesn't look like there are any hoses running back there, and it's quite a ways down the side of the engine. There is some kind of gizmo there with some wires on it (the sender for the temp guage? could that be it?)

Someone else suggested it could be the "block plug". I've never heard of such a thing (same as frost plug?). My mechanical experience comes mainly from my old '69 VW Beetle (no rad, no leaking coolant!) so I'm a bit of a newbie around cooling systems.

Anyone got an idea?
