Help!! I have an 86 325 that alway ran 1/4 to 1/2 on the temperature guage, even in the hot texas summers. Now in the last two weeks it has started running warmer, infact last night it got to 3/4. I have has the radaitor flushed and the temostrat seems to be opening. Any ideas what it could be before I take it to a mechanic or perhaps it is something that my husband can fix himself.
Thanks for any ideas
Did you flush the engine as well ?
Sometimes sludge can build in the engine block and cause problems with the radiator. When you flush the radiator it is clean but the engine still has build up, which can in turn reblock the radiator.
Use a good pressure hose, with the thermostat out
flush out the engine. You could also use some
sort of additive but its not really needed.
Other things that could be causing this are
1/ fuel mixture ( too lean )
2/ engine timing ( too much advance )
3/ Leaky hoses
4/ Badly worn main or big end bearings
5/ Blown head gasket.
Hope that helps
Thanks Griffon,
I am going to turn this information over to my husband and let him work on it.
