The optima battery is sealed and requires no venting. I have the napa version in my trunk and I have no concerns. As for fuel vapors...if your battery connections are tight and no loose wires, and your battery is securely mounted, and you don't have metal objects rolling around trunk which could arc on batt terminal, you should not be any more at risk than having an electric fuel pump mounted in your trunk. It makes a lot more room under the hood, eh?HTH

I just recently installed the battery in the trunk and i am debating whether or not to buy a premanufactured box for the battery or to make one myself.
two issues.
1. does the battery box need to have air outlets to allow for breathing? The battery i am using is the optima interstate.
2. I also have the extended fuel tank in the trunk. if by any chance there would be a gas vapor leak what would the possibility of an explosion occuring?
both of these issues are of great concern to me (as they should be) any response to this would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. dont knock my spelling....... I know its teribel. :)
