323i engine conversion? (archive)

I am looking for information on a conversion for my 323i. I have a 323i that needs a whole new bottom end. All it looks like I will be able to salvage is the crank and block and a few accesories. Everything else under the hood is in great shape as well as a head that was fully overhauled in the spring. I would like to boost the performance, esspecially if the conversion is going to be around the same price as a full rebuild. I am already having difficulty in locating new oversize pistons and rings for this car. I have seen some information on the block from a 528e being compatible with the head from the 323i. Does this conversion require a Euro block or can I use a North American one. If anyone has any insight to offer let me know, this car is my baby and I want to do the job right.
