I've done a V8 conversion in the past on a Vega Wagon, 350 LT1 spec'd 370HP V8, w/ a Doug Thorley V8 conversion kit, Powerglide, 4:10 10Bolt Positraction. The torque killed my car, twisted the unibody, before I could get it on the track.

If I were to do it again, and I am sure that I will, this 302CID Chevy motor utilizes a 350CID bore and 283CID "large journal" crank, which is specific forged unit for the 302CID motor. THe bottom end is a 4 bolt main block, with floating wristpins and pink rods. RPM's in the 7500k-8000k w/ stock "151" solid lift cam.

With the limited wheel well clearance on the E21 to mount ultra wide tires, you would do well to give up a little torque, which A 327 or 350 CID outputs more of, and gear the differential (4.10 or 4.56 : 1) to match the high rpm capability of the 302CID motor.
