Opinions on injection manifolds for performance? (archive)

I am planning on building hot 2 litre for play (street/track) and I am seeking opinions on the best head/injection manifold to use on a 1981 320i. In my parts collection, I have an E21 1977-79 style manifold and a 1.8i 1984-85 318i 'injectors in the manifold-type' inlet (in addition to the 1981 1.8i 'injectors in the head-type' head, manifold and K Jetronic. I plan to fit either the L Jetronic or an after-market ecu, possibly a Haltec unit.

Based on past discussion on the board, I’ll use either of the two 1.8i heads, but I’m not certain about the manifold.

The questions are:

1. Which of the three manifolds would flow better? For the 77-79 type inlet, I would bore out the casting to 51mm to make use of a 325e butterfly based on the Pete McHenry article.

2. Would injectors in the head be better than injectors in the manifold?

TIA

Will
