Ugh, I suppose I should adress this problem soon. After noting that my brake pedal had lost its firmness, I checked the brake fluid to see that it was low. Fine. I filled it up, and that didn't help. Playing around with the car, I found that pumping the pedal renews the firmness, and also makes the car rev 1400 rpm. I figured, vaccuum. I replaced that line that goes between the booster and the mainifold. (on my 83, by the way) No help. Now, I'm wondering what major component has failed. THe booster? is there a leak somewhere along the lines? I haven't noticed the fluid leaking out again, and I can't say I've even done more than glanced at it since I've owned the car, so it could have been like that. This problem is definitely new, and my brakes are pretty badly compromised, so I suppose I should fix it. On the lighter side, my 83 just celebrated its 160,000 mi. anneversary with no (knock knock) major problems! I hope it stays that way. Thanks in advance everyone! -alan 83 320i 79 320i
