For your application, it sounds like it would be a good match. Detonation is an ugly thing. Damage from it is additive, every bit hurts.

Some other things can add up to detonation. Like a poor tuning of fuel and ignition, and carbon build up in the chamber, inefficient cooling system. Water injection should not be used as a band-aid.

If you don't know already, make sure your fuel system, ignition system and cooling system are all in perfect condition/tune. Make sure you are not feeding oily fumes from the engine ventilation to the intake (this is really, really good at increasing detonation). A baffled catch can is preferable, but alot of people just vent the engine to the atmosphere.

Try running some engine decarbonizer through the fuel, in the States I use something called Regane. WaterWetter from redline may help in the cooling department. A cooler plug should be tested as well.

Since you are looking to gain an advantage with racing, make sure you quantify the changes with some testing (do you own an accelerometer?) Aggresive timing is not always a power producer and I am not sure if in a N/A application water will pull too much heat. You would want to pull enough heat to avoid detonation, but every bit more is heat that could be turing your crank. During a race is not a good time to find out your car is now slower.

It is popular here in the States to use a modern cars coolant holder to keep water in. What you will want to look for is a car that has a warning system for low coolant. This way you can rig up some sort of indicator that you are running out. Or just size it large enough to know you are safe.
