If I was in your situation I would buy a used head and disassymble everything myself. Take pictures along the way if you are not sure about something. No you don't need special tools to releive the pressure of the FI system. Just pull the fuel pump fuse while the car is running.

I have an '80 320i that overheated and I think warped the
cylinder head. I've been tols I have to depressurize the
fuel injection w/special tools, whereas I just planned to
try to take off injection manifold in the driveway like I
did for 32/36 carb conversion on my old 02 a few yrs ago.

Local shop wants $1100 which is more than I paid for car.

Is it unrealistic for a amateur such as I to think of doing such a task?? At least right now it RUNS. I don't wanna
end up with a driveway full of parts and regret...

Any help would be most welcome.

Thanks,
Rick Goodwin
